For the week of April 30- May 4, the word is DISTRACTION

1 Corinthians 7:31-33 (Message)

29-31I do want to point out, friends, that time is of the essence. There is no time to waste, so don’t complicate your lives unnecessarily. Keep it simple —in marriage, grief, joy, whatever. Even in ordinary things—your daily routines of shopping, and so on. Deal as sparingly as possible with the things the world thrusts on you. This world as you see it is on its way out.

32-35I want you to live as free of complications as possible. When you’re unmarried, you’re free to concentrate on simply pleasing the Master. Marriage involves you in all the nuts and bolts of domestic life and in wanting to please your spouse, leading to so many more demands on your attention. The time and energy that married people spend on caring for and nurturing each other, the unmarried can spend in becoming whole and holy instruments of God. I’m trying to be helpful and make it as easy as possible for you, not make things harder. All I want is for you to be able to develop a way of life in which you can spend plenty of time together with the Master without a lot of distractions.

The enemy knows the Word better than most Christians. He knows YOUR weaknesses and he knows well how to distract you. He knows how to complicate your thinking and your day. The only weapons you have to combat his tricks are the development of your knowledge and understanding of the Word as well as your development of your level of intimacy with the Father. Do you know who you are according to your Father? Do you know who are according to the Word? Do you know the marvelous plan God has for your life? If you don’t know that you know that you know at least pieces if these then the enemy will always be able to not only distract you but torment you!

When was the last time you spent intimate time with God? When was the last time you added more details about who you are to memory banks? When was the last time you reinforced your understanding by requiring His Presence? What are you allowing to distract you? What has pulled your eyes to left or right? Are you a warrior or a bystander? Many are called but few choose (Matt 22:14)! It’s your choice what you allow to distract you and what you absorb into your day. The Word is your weapon but you are Jesus’ weapon. You are His hands and feet on the Earth. You are His mouthpiece. Do not lay down your weapons – do not look to the left or the right.

20My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings.
21Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart.
22For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.
23Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.
24Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you.
25Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you.
26Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright.
27Turn not aside to the right hand or to the left; remove your foot from evil.
(Proverbs 4:20-27 Amplified)

If you are looking to the left or the right you will miss the frontal assault.

To keep Satan from getting the advantage over us; for we are not ignorant of his wiles and intentions. (2 Corinthians 2:11)

A house divided against itself cannot stand (Mark 3:25)! Do not be divided in your thoughts or actions! Stand and having done all you know to do continue to stand (Eph 6:13)! Maintain the course! Study to show yourself approved and a useful vessel. Fight the good fight of faith. Distractions lead to fear – distractions lead to division – distractions lead to instability! Choose to remain fixed and stable. Choose to study the Word. Choose to be a usable vessel. Choose to be His weapon and warrior. Choose – choose well…

THE STAR OF THE SHOW.

By: Jennifer Maxey

The phone rings, it’s your agent calling with the great news. YOU have been cast as the lead in what is expected to be the biggest blockbuster the silver screen has seen in generations. You are pumped! The top director in the world will be calling the shots and you fly out to Hollywood in the morning. You’re so excited that you can’t even sleep. You think of all the people you will get to meet and work with, all the stunts, clothes, makeup and traveling to exotic places while on location. Then it hits you — FEAR. What if you forget your lines? What if the plane crashes? What if they made a mistake…? Be honest with yourself. Is this you? Have you been handed the role of a lifetime and felt overcome with fear? Has God revealed who you are to you, officially called you out to your purpose only to watch you cower in fear, hesitation and self-doubt? Breathe… No really, breathe. Let’s go back to the phone call. Continue reading

CORRECTIVE LENSES.

By: Jennifer Maxey

Just like each of us has unique fingerprints, God has given each of us a unique set of giftings, talents and a vision (purpose or calling) for our lives. The vision God has for your life connects with aspects of the vision He has for the lives of all His children. Think of it as a network of highways covering the whole earth in order to accomplish God’s Will.

Vision, by definition, is a gradient that measures your ability to accurately navigate through the world around you by interpreting the reflection of light or information your eyes receive. Without vision you have to rely on other senses to make your way through life. In the natural this is very possible to do, but there are serious limitations to blindness. Spiritually, a lack of vision is deadly. ”Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish.” Proverbs 29:18a (AMP)

If you have ever experienced an eye exam, you recall the clicking and switching of dials and lenses mixed with the seemingly never-ending question stream of “Which one is clearer, A or B? Again, that’s A…? or B…?” Maybe you had the pleasure of having an optometrist who took his or her time and carefully verified each minor adjustment to your vision… I seem to consistently sit in the chair ruled by the speed racer of optometrists. The pressure of A or B, B or C, 1 or 2, etc., kind of makes me a bit anxious. Continue reading

Genesis 46 (AMP)

1SO ISRAEL made his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba [a place hallowed by sacred memories] and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

2And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, Jacob! Jacob! And he said, Here am I.

3And He said, I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will there make of you a great nation.

4I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you [your people Israel] up again; and Joseph will put his hand upon your eyes [when they are about to close in death].

5So Jacob arose and set out from Beersheba, and Israel’s sons conveyed their father, their little ones, and their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

6And they took their cattle and the gains which they had acquired in the land of Canaan and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him:

7His sons and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters and his sons’ daughters–all his offspring he brought with him into Egypt. Continue reading

Genesis 37 (AMP)

3Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children because he was the son of his old age, and he made him a [distinctive] long tunic with sleeves.

4But when his brothers saw that their father loved [Joseph] more than all of his brothers, they hated him and could not say, Peace [in friendly greeting] to him or speak peaceably to him.

5Now Joseph had a dream and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him still more.

6And he said to them, Listen now and hear, I pray you, this dream that I have dreamed:

7We [brothers] were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright, and behold, your sheaves stood round about my sheaf and bowed down!

8His brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? Or are you going to have us as your subjects and dominate us? And they hated him all the more for his dreams and for what he said. Continue reading

I Chronicles 17 (AMP)

10Since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel. Moreover, I will subdue all your enemies. Furthermore, I foretell to you that the Lord will build you a house (a blessed posterity).

11And it shall come to pass that when your days are fulfilled to go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.

12He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.

13I will be his father, and he shall be My son; and I will not take My mercy and steadfast love away from him, as I took it from him [King Saul] who was before you.

14But I will settle [a]him (Him) in My house and in My kingdom forever; and his (His) throne shall be established forevermore.

15According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David. Continue reading

Genesis 15 (Amp)

1AFTER THESE things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am your [a]Shield, your abundant compensation, and your reward shall be exceedingly great.

2And Abram said, Lord God, what can You give me, since I am going on [from this world] childless and he who shall be the owner and heir of my house is this [steward] Eliezer of Damascus?

3And Abram continued, Look, You have given me no child; and [a servant] born in my house is my heir.

4And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, This man shall not be your heir, but he who shall come from your own body shall be your heir.

5And He brought him outside [his tent into the starlight] and said, Look now toward the heavens and count the stars–if you are able to number them. Then He said to him, So shall your descendants be.

6And he [Abram] believed in (trusted in, relied on, remained steadfast to) the Lord, and He counted it to him as righteousness (right standing with God). Continue reading
